Telangana Government Begins Distribution of 2 Bedroom Houses in GHMC

The Telangana government began the third round of distribution of double-bedroom dwellings on Monday, October 2, with the goal of distributing 2BHK flats to approximately 19 thousand households. The ‘Dignity houses Scheme’ was launched in 2015 and is expected to give houses to 5.72 lakh impoverished families in Telangana.

Various legislative ministers, including Md. Mahmood Ali, Sabitha Indra Reddy, and Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, as well as Deputy Speaker Padma Rao Goud, contributed to the project in nine different districts. Minister Harish Rao has allocated the most number of 2BHK homes in Kollur-II, 6067.

To ensure that the scheme serves the targeted sector of society, the government has set several eligibility criteria for anyone to acquire the property. First, the beneficiary must have a Below Poverty Line (BPL) card and a ration card. Second, in order to empower women, the house will only be assigned to housewives. Third, the scheme is aimed at the homeless.

The 2BHK Housing Scheme has reservations for both urban and rural locations. There is a 50% reservation in rural regions for SC/ST (Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes) beneficiaries, 7% for minority communities, and 43% for everyone else. Others in metropolitan areas receive 65% of reserves, while SC receives 17%, ST receives 6%, and minority communities receive 12%. These reservations ensure that marginalised groups in society have equitable access to homes.

Here is the list of locations with the number of houses under third phase of 2BHK Scheme:

  • Dundigal- 3,142
  • Shankarpally- 1,361
  • Mansanpally- 2,099
  • Nallagandla- 344
  • Narsingi- 356
  • Kollur-II- 6,067
  • Ahmedguda- 1,965
  • Rampally- 3,214
  • Abdullapur- 472
  • Total- 19,020

The primary purpose of this programme is to satisfy the housing needs of Telangana people who are both meritorious and economically disadvantaged. The government wishes to enhance the living conditions of the poor by offering affordable housing units, assuring those in need of safe and dignified homes.
